The children's library, of course!
Yesterday a couple and her lawyer came in to the children's library the to hammer out the gruesome details of their divorce. It is not at all unusual for people to conduct meetings at the library. It is public, neutral, and free. On several occasions I have had social workers with clients, discussing child issues or supervising visits.
This little threesome had not been there a full sixty seconds when the man got belligerent and started getting all sarcastic and loud. He was swearing and getting dangerously red in the face. I got my supervisor, who asked them to relocate to the adult part of the library. They didn't. Honestly. Fortunately, there were no children in there on a cloudy Monday morning, but there is a principle here that seems obvious to me.
Maybe for their next meeting they could go to the playground.

I still can't believe that happened. Being a library clerk isn't as boring as some people may think!
Hmmm...very interesting. Maybe if you had started giving them advice for a good marrige they would have relocated.
After hearing the news last night about the college librarian getting shot....there's a new phrase in the making - instead of "going postal" it will be - well, I can't think of a new phrase but someone clever will. This story is one more reason I'm not sure I like the permit to carry a concealed weapon. Not that an angry person worries about having a permit...but I'd at least like for them to have to go home to get their gun before they come back to shoot me:).
That's just CRAZY!! What an awful thing--just go to Starbucks. At least they could get coffee to take the edge off!
